MAR contributes to Portugal's inclusion in Qualship 21

For the first time, vessels under the Portuguese flag have been included in the Qualship 21 Index of the United States of America.

Such index verifies whether foreign flagged vessels operating in U.S. waters comply with the applicable international conventions, U.S. laws and U.S. regulations, namely regarding quality and safety standards. The flags that meet all the requirements can fully qualify for the QUALSHIP 21 programme.

Considering that the large majority of vessels from the Portuguese merchant fleet are registered in the International Shipping Register of Madeira (MAR), this development is a further contribution of MAR for the shipping sector in Portugal. Internationally, this certification reinforces MAR's credibility and prestige.

For SDM, this is a very positive development since it confirms the success of the strategy followed to make of the Madeira Register a quality and credible flag.

Furthermore, it is a sign that MAR is able to compete, side by side, with the biggest shipping registers in Europe and beyond.

At the end of October, a total of 562 vessels were registered in MAR, including commercial vessels, pleasure and commercial yachts.
